Just came across this on ye blogosphere. I haven’t yet tried logging into my other XMPP accounts, but it does let you specify a full JID so I’m assuming it will allow this, despite the Google Talk label.
Feature-wise it looks pretty cool. The GUI is better than most IM clients I’ve seen on Windows Mobile, but not that flashy. Not sure what to think about the VOIP, I see no evidence of these in the GUI. Oops, spoke too soon, I see “call” there now. Neat. I don’t have many contacts to test it with however. Add halr9000@gmail.com to your roster and let’s test it out. :)
“OctroTalk is currently in BETA, and is available for download. The current download will expire on March31st, 2007.”
Darn, it’s not freeware.
Here’s the canned bit from their website:

And some screenshots from the manual:

No Treo700p support?
I cry :’(
No, but it does support 700w.
OctroTalk requires WM5 or higher OS. Works for Pocket PC and Smartphone. Yes including 700w. Supports file transfer and instant picture transfer.
OctroTalk now also support Jabber Groupchat/Conferencing. It is now also available for Windows — you can also share files between OctroTalk on PC and OctroTalk on Windows Mobile.
Good to know. BTW, that complementary copy I asked for never showed up!
Complementary copy will show up once we start charging people. Currently it is free for all.
OctroTalk has added my new features: peer-to-peer file transfer, picture transfer, file and folder sharing, Unattended file sharing BOT, group chat/conference. It has many new chat view preferences for a colorful chatting experience. It also supports Jabber.
Let me know when it can remotely control my car. You could call it the K.I.T.T. bot feature.
I downloaded this today and so far I really like it. I’ll be interested to see if I can truly leave it running all the time without worrying about battery life. If so… Octro has a new fan!
Thanks for the article, the blog is new to me but I’ll be checking back now that I’ve had a taste.
Don’t use this software. It converts all your MSN ids into some internal wankware mapping schema that has to flow through Octro. This disables use of the MSN client on a full grown machine. It took 20-30 minutes to re-enter my contacts list.
And it doesn’t work very well. Avoid at all costs.
Cheers,
Mike
I will download and try this software, because I was searching for some tool that allows me to stay connected on YM and Gtalk
