I was googling looking for a 3D model of my Ikea desk, and there it was! Well, actually it’s your desk but it’s the same thing.

Could you please share that model with me? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!

By the way, in my office (I work at home) I have two of those desks, mirror images to each other. They’re placed with the short arms adjoining, so it makes a big U. I can reach everything, and I’m captain of my little universe.

I’ve only made one object in SketchUp, a train station/coffee shop. It turned out great, but I have to tweak it because Google has some noodly rules about how the roof is supposed to look. There was a bit of a learning curve; I think some of the tools are a little odd. But wow, it does nice work.

Have you tried SweetHome3D? It’s free and it runs on Windows, Mac or the web. In quick explorations, it seemed VERY easy and very satisfying to make a building, but it has some weird gaps. For example, taking a photo of a wall and then using it to quickly add reality to a model was super-easy in SketchUp, but nasty in SweetHome3D.

My current goal is to make a 3D model of the interiors in my house. We are going to be moving soon, so that would make a nice souvenir.

In any case, I hope you don’t mind sharing your model of that Ikea desk.
