what I'm really after is to be able to record journal entries that I can tag and search, as well as your standard events and tasks.

that would be nice PIM

Ahh, I didn't realize ther was another one. It's pretty confusing, don't you think? You have "the calendar extension", "sunbird", and now "lightning". Lightning does look promising, and it would be extensible.

hi,

maybe an idea would be to follow the development of Lighting for Thunderbird? the available .xpis i checked out a while ago sent my TB reeling, but sometime this year there should be something usable and fairly stable.

Yup, Evolution is cool. I've been checking in on that project from time to time. But my primary OS is [*] Windows, and Evolution doesn't run there. Some quick research shows that it will be available on Windows in the future if this project moves forward.

[*] Is? Was? No longer? TBD. I might switch to Linux, or I might flip-flop.

Hi,

you could try Evolution - http://www.gnome.org/projects/evolution/ too.
It's pretty much a clone of Outlook on steroids.. The multiple+virtual calendars is an awesome feature for example

Good luck
